Weather Delays, Closures, and Remote Learning
Moniteau School District is committed to providing our students with the best possible education. We have learned from our experiences over the past few years that our students learn best in an in-person learning environment. In an effort to better support our students, Moniteau School District will use traditional snow days until we no longer have snow days available.
Currently, our snow makeup days are as follows:
- Monday, February 17, 2025 (makeup day for January 6, 2025)
- Tuesday, April 22, 2025 (makeup day for January 16, 2025)
- Monday, April 21, 2025 (makeup day for January 21, 2025)
- Thursday, April 17, 2025 (makeup day for January 22, 2025)
Please know that the district makes decisions regarding closures and delays with input from surrounding school districts, township and borough officials, school administration, and ABC Transit, Inc.
Two-Hour Delay
In the event of a two-hour delay, the following will take place: Families will be notified of a delay via the ParentSquare message system (phone, email and/or text), a message will be visible on the district website and district Facebook page, additionally, local news and radio stations will broadcast the message. Every effort will be made to notify families of a two-hour delay no later than 6:00 a.m. When the district is following a two-hour delay schedule, the high school will start at 9:30 a.m. and the elementary school will start at 11:00 a.m.
School Closure for In-Person Learning
In the event that conditions require a full-day closure for in-person instruction, the district will operate first by using all available snow makeup days and when those are exhausted by using a Flexible Instruction Day (FID). Families will be notified of the closure via the ParentSquare message system (phone, email and/or text), a message will be visible on the district website and district Facebook page, additionally, local news and radio stations will broadcast the message. When school is closed, all extracurricular activities are cancelled. Every effort will be made to notify families of a closure no later than 8:00 a.m.
Flexible Instruction Day Frequently Asked Questions
Please note: Flexible Instruction Days will not be utilized until all snow makeup days have been exhausted.
What is a Flexible Instruction Day (FID)?
On these days, students will work remotely from their homes. Moniteau School District is permitted to use up to five (5) FIDs this school year when inclement weather requires a school closure.
How are parents, guardians, and community members informed of delays and closings?
Delay and closing information will be communicated via the district’s website, Skylert message system (phone, email and text), district Facebook page, WBUT/WISR, KDKA, WTAE, and WPXI.
How soon after a decision to close or delay will the district inform parents and guardians?
The district notifies parents/guardians via Skylert message system and website alerts as soon as a decision is made. Please note that the district makes every effort to avoid calling between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. when possible. You are encouraged to visit the district’s website for alerts and notifications.
If the district closes for in-person learning and operates remotely, using a FID, where can I find the high school and elementary schools' remote FIDs schedules?
See the information posted in the sidebar of this page regarding remote FIDs learning schedules.
Will every school closure due to inclement weather be considered a remote Flexible Instruction Day (FID)?
No, the district will utilize all snow makeup days prior to using an FID. The district can use up to five (5) FIDs in a year. Should the weather be especially bad and we use all snow makeup days plus five (5) FIDs we will then be required to add days to the calendar.
Who do I contact if I do not receive the automated messages (phone, email, text)?
The district contacts parents/guardians based on the contact information in the Skyward Information System. If you are not receiving alerts and would like to, please update your contact information in Skyward. If you have trouble logging in to Skyward, please contact your child’s school office to assist/update your contact information.
If my child has an IEP and needs additional assistance throughout the day, whom should I contact?
You can email your child’s case manager via email. Additionally, you can call the special education office at 724-637-2117, ext. 1705.
