Budget Update

It was recently reported in the Butler Eagle that Moniteau School District's average homeowner would pay an additional $52 per month in taxes in the proposed 2023–2024 budget. This information is incorrect. Should the budget pass in June as is, the average homeowner in Moniteau School District would pay an additional $52 per year.

The proposed final general fund budget (PDE-2008) of the Moniteau School District for the 2023–2024 school year, as approved by the Moniteau School District Board of Directors on May 22, 2023, is available for public inspection to all interested persons at the following locations: Dassa McKinney Elementary School Principal's Office, Moniteau Jr./Sr. High School Principal's Office, and the District Administration Office between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The final adoption of the 2023–2024 general fund budget will be approved after the legal requirement of 30 days from the adoption of the proposed fund budget and available for public inspection of 20 days.

School Culture Survey - Part Two

This is part two of the School Culture study, which means we welcome and encourage you to complete the survey, whether or not you completed the survey in February.

School culture is something every school district hopes everyone views in a positive light. All district stakeholders (students, staff, community members, etc...) have a role to play in school culture. With the permission of the Moniteau School District Board of Directors and the Institutional Review Board at Pennsylvania Western University (formerly California University of Pennsylvania), the focus area of my doctoral project is school culture, specifically as viewed through the lens of community stakeholders. The attached survey is comprised of eighteen questions that will help to examine how Moniteau's community stakeholders view school culture. I will not only use the data collected from this survey to complete the requirements of the doctoral degree, but also to assist the district in this area in the future. The information listed below will address questions you may have. The link to the survey is at the end of this email. Thank you for your time and have a wonderful evening.

Survey Participant Disclosure

Introduction

I am conducting an action research study to investigate how engagement opportunities may have an impact on school culture and whether social media influences that engagement. In this study, you will answer questions regarding gender and alumni status. You will also answer questions related to school events you may have attended, or your child(ren) may have participated in. Additionally, you will be asked about your communication preferences as well as your social media preferences, if any. Finally, you will answer questions about your perceptions of school culture and whether you feel different groups of stakeholders support the student population.

Participation

Families of students at the Moniteau School District, as well as adults (aged eighteen or older, not currently enrolled in the school district) who may not have a current child in this district, have been selected as participants in this study. Participation in the survey is voluntary and will be collected via Google form. The survey should take approximately ten minutes to complete and consists of a majority of multiple-choice questions with a couple of open-ended questions, if applicable.

Benefits

Benefits of this study are unknown but may assist the district in the improvement of how to increase and foster student engagement. Results may have an impact on school culture.

Risks

There are no foreseeable risks associated with participating in this study.

Confidentiality

All information provided in the survey answers will be anonymous and will not be personally identifiable when the data is presented. Participants may elect to not participate in the survey or to withdraw after they have begun the survey. Incomplete surveys will not be used for the study.

This study has received approval from Pennsylvania Western University's (formerly California University of Pennsylvania) Institutional Review Board and is completed as a requirement of the Doctor of Education in Educational Administration and Leadership program. This approval is effective September 27, 2022, and expires September 26, 2023. Please refer any additional questions to Dr. Todd Keruskin, Faculty Capstone Committee Chair, or Mrs. Aubrie Schnelle, Doctoral Student at (724) 637-2117.

By moving forward with the survey questions, you indicate you understand this disclosure form and consent to participate in the survey. Should you not wish to participate please do not go any further.

Transportation Information

With the end of the year nearing, we would like to ask that all families please convey any changes in transportation needs and child care arrangements going into the upcoming school year as soon as possible. Please remember that the default stop for all students at the start of the year is their home address, as listed in Skyward. We will also be announcing a few changes to our bus pass policy before the end of the school year. Information regarding this and other transportation updates over the summer will be conveyed to all students, parents and guardians at the end of the school year.

Moniteau FFA

On Wednesday, April 19, students in the Moniteau Junior-Senior High School's FFA program traveled to Dassa McKinney Elementary School to spread the word about agriculture. Led by their advisor, Mr. Bryan Dean, FFA student leaders taught lessons to second and fourth-grade students about the importance of farming. The FFA students intermixed math and reading lessons with their presentations about how our community benefits from agriculture.

FFA students again traveled to Dassa on May 10 for their annual Ag Adventures Day. Mini lessons were delivered to fourth-grade students about thirteen different agriculture topics.
